ABC News -- Today, for the first time since he was transported from Iraq to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, Lt. Colonel Tim Karcher woke up. Colonel Franklin Childress, who has been by his bedside since Tuesday, tells me that despite losing both his legs to a bomb attack on Sunday in Baghdad, Karcher has a very positive attitude as does Alesia, his wife. Childress adds, He is one of the greatest American's I have met. He is a real hero that people should remember on Independence Day. In the next few days, Karcher is expected to fly to the US where he will continue his recovery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
